Premiered in January 2024 at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano under the direction of Claudio Longhi, this adaptation brings to life Pedro Lemebel's sharp and visionary novel, first published in 2001. Set during one of the most turbulent chapters in Chile's history, Tengo fear torero captures the unavoidable arc of desire — told through passion and politics in perfect balance.

Santiago de Chile, 1986. On the fringes of a city silenced by censorship lives the Queen of the Corner, a faded, lonely trans woman who spends her days embroidering tablecloths while listening to love songs. One day, Carlos — a young member of the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front — knocks on her door, looking for a safe place to hold secret meetings. A bond of complicity soon grows between them, where the Queen’s romantic longing for Carlos intertwines with his political commitment.

Between the fleeting moments of joy the Queen manages to steal with “her” Carlos, and while dictator Augusto Pinochet and his wife Lucía Hiriart narrate their own version of the country they believe they live in, preparations for the 1986 assassination attempt persist — stubborn and unstoppable.
