PLATEA ANFITRIÓN

This showcase is part of PLATEA: Professionals’ Week at the Teatro a Mil International Festival, which each year highlights a specific country or territory to promote its performing arts sector to international presenters and cultural agents. The goal is to foster touring opportunities and strengthen professional networks within one of Latin America’s key performing arts markets.

This year we welcome the state of Rio de Janeiro, through a partnership with ¡Hola Rio!, the internationalization program for creative industries led by the Secretary of State for Culture and Creative Economy. Now in its third edition, ¡Hola Rio! arrives in Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay after having captivated the streets of Madrid in 2023 and six Colombian cities in 2024.

The collaboration is further reinforced by the support of the Embassy of Brazil in Chile and the Government of Rio de Janeiro (SECEC), reflecting a shared commitment among institutions and organizations to spotlight, strengthen, and support the development of the arts and cultural sector.

Within this context, we are honored to welcome Ney Matogrosso, a legend of Brazilian popular music, who visits our country for the very first time with his tour “Bloco na Rua”.

In teatro the program include Venas abiertas 60 30 15 seg by Aquela Compañía, inspired by Eduardo Galeano’s classic Open Veins of Latin America, an Tres Hermanos by Compañía Cerne, a production based on an original script inspired by Jorge Amado’s novel Seara Vermelha.

Brazil’s music scene will also be represented by Os Garotin, considered among the most exciting new voices in contemporary Brazilian music. In dance, Paz y amor – Paisajes experimentales en tiempo de confinamiento by the Marcia Milhazes Dance Company, features two solos created from material developed during the period of social isolation.

Outdoors and free to the public is Mão – trasladar la casa por el paisaje by Coletivo Mão. This circus performance, which celebrates the collective’s tenth anniversary, is an urban intervention centered on construction and manual labor.

Also arriving from Brazil are Desierto, directed by Luiz Felipe Reis—an intense, provocative piece inspired by the work of Roberto Bolaño; Caos en los Trópicos, a street carnival blending Brazilian fanfare and popular rhythms in an open, participatory celebration where the audience becomes part of the show; and the music o Uli Costa presented as part of Tocatas Mil.
